Functional, yet beautiful!
I love a beautiful laundry room. I have no idea why, but I suppose if you can have a beautiful utility space, I am smitten! In my new home, we actually have an actual laundry room which I am so excited about! Not that I LOVE doing laundry (I don’t mind the washing, it’s the folding and putting away that gets me!), but I am dreaming of the day that it is painted, new cabinets are installed, and it is organized and beautiful! Ours is right off the kitchen (it’s sort of a glorified hallway) and you have to walk through it to get to the garage and the side door. So I guess it’s a laundry/mud room which is perfect! We actually use the side door a lot to enter the house, so it’s a great place to dump your things and take off your dirty shoes. We actually plan on someday bumping the wall back that it shares with the garage, just far enough to add a long counter top and upper and lower cabinets, as our kitchen is pretty teeny and this would add a sort of butler pantry for extra storage – something that you can NEVER have enough of! So eventually this will be a pretty amazing room for organization nerds like me!
Here is pretty much what my laundry room looks like now:

Laundry Room "Before" (Bleh!)
But my new washer and dryer are in! We are going to go pick them up on Saturday – woo hoo!
And here are some laundry rooms I admire…drool…
Maybe this will motivate me to keep up on the laundry…for once…
So I've discovered "Polyvore…"
I ran across this nifty website that lets you design “sets” using products online. Sooo fun! A lot of people put together some really amazing fashion sets, there are contests you can enter, and it is a great way to put a mock-up together. This one only took me 8 hours. Kidding! But this is what I would love my bedroom to look like some day (and don’t forget to call it a favorite on the site!!):

Now head on over there and create some sets!

Here is a project I’m working on which includes paint and accessory consultations for a living/dining room and two bedrooms (master bedroom and children’s bedroom). This is the first mock-up for the living/dining room, so we’ll see what they think! The client has a newly purchased large (very large) curving sectional sofa, as well as a large (very large) big-screen TV on a newly purchased entertainment center. The sofa is a medium brown suede, which she has accented with red pillows and asked me to incorporate. She wants a red accent wall, which I chose as the dining room wall with the window (you can see it in the “before” shot below), and possibly down the hallway as one wall of it comes out and is visible in the living room. As for the main wall paint, I chose a light mustardy-white (very neutral, but bright) to lighten up the room, which has very poor lighting. I chose an IKEA floor lamp to place behind the couch, but as you can see from the mock-up, it would come over the back of the couch and act as an overhead light. I am recommending some neutral, patterned window coverings to coordinate with the square-patterned area rugs that the client already owns and wishes to incorporate, as well as light colored (washable) slipcovers for the dining room chair to coordinate with the IKEA lamp.

I’m working on my own website (my url: lindsaychristensendesign.com is having issues), but hopefully it will be up soon to show my portfolio of interior, graphic and web design projects. So here’s a little taste – a simple and clean website design for a lovely woman and talented interior designer named Tami!
