I’ve Been Nominated!

Wow…just when I was trying to figure out what to write about today, I found out that Kristin from Discover: Interior Design has nominated me for a Blog Award!  My very first, how exciting!!  She has honored me with the “Honest Scrap” award, yay!

I really love this whole “blogging” thing.  Not many people that I know in the real world blog or have a blog.  Unless it’s a personal blog about their cute babies for families to read.  :)   I’ve “met” a lot of great bloggers, and feel like I’ve made a lot of new friends, so thank you, Kristin!  So what am I supposed to do with this Blog Award?  There are rules that one must follow!

  1. Say thanks and give a link to the presenter of the award (duh!).
  2. Share “10 Honest Things” about myself.
  3. Present this award to 7 others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me.
  4. Tell those 7 people they’ve been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving.

First of all I’d like to thank the Academy…I mean Kristin @ Discover: Interior Design!  Thanks, girl!!  And P.S. – go visit her over at her blog!  I’d re-nominate her if I could!!  She is sharing the wonderful profession of Interior Design with the world, one tip and piece of interior design jargon at a time!

Okay…10 Honest Things About Me.  Hmmm…

  1. I always thought I’d do something science-related or “practical” as my profession.  It’s just what you do where I come from.  How can you get a job with an art major??  I was “undeclared in Biological Sciences” at one college, I have an Associate of Science Degree in General Education from another and I’ve finished every single pre-requisite you need for Dental Hygiene or Nursing School.  I planned on doing one or the other at one point.  And then I realized I’d hate it because I need more creativity and freedom than the basic 8-5.
  2. When I watch movies or TV I have a bad habit of relating with the actor more than following along with the plot.  I think about how embarrassing that scene would have been to do, or how difficult or stressful it must have been, and it makes or breaks how much I like them.  :)
  3. I love that I have a daughter.  Glenn wanted a boy so bad, but I was doing the happy dance (in my mind, of course) when we found out Harper was a girl.  And I think of that every day!  I do hope the next one is a boy, especially for Glenn’s sake, but I’ve always wanted a little girl.  And she is definitely mama’s girl.  Don’t get me wrong – Glenn is wrapped around her little finger and he loves her to death, but can you blame him for wanting a little mini-Glenn, too??
  4. Like Kristin, I am so pale I’m translucent.  I know exactly what she means.  It’s weird.
  5. My natural hair color is a dark ash-blonde (I call it ‘mousy’ because it almost looks gray), but I’ve dyed it every natural hair color imaginable and it works on me!!  I’ve been a bleach-blonde, sandy blonde, light-brunette, dark-brunette, redhead and I’ve even dyed my hair black.  I like a little drama with my hair color and cut.
  6. A fair amount (more than normal, I think) of people in my extended family suffer from various forms of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder); i.e., obsessive hand-washing, bulimia, trichotillomania (eye lash and hair pulling), maybe paired with depression.  So I’m a little worried that I’ve passed it on to Harper.  Wow, that was super honest, wasn’t it?  But we’re all a little OCD in some way, aren’t we?
  7. I use the ” :) ” wwaayy too much.  I realize it.  Don’t judge me.  Thank you!
  8. I could eat cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  And it all has to be dunked in the milk before I start eating.
  9. Jobs I’ve had or places I’ve worked in my life: Lifeguard, Ice cream/hamburger joint, hardware store cashier, wildland fire/fuels crew, college rec center (front desk and weight room), dental assistant, bookkeeper, coffee barista, bartender, receptionist, Public Health office specialist (aka receptionist), health specialist (I taught kids how to eat right and brush their teeth), administrative assistant at a nutrition education program, interior design intern, draftsman (woman?) and project leader for an after school program.  My most important job, though, is ‘mommy.’  :)   And I am a blogger and an interior designer.
  10. My oven is beeping and it won’t stop.  I think we broke it this morning.  I won’t tell you how because it is embarrassing, but I’m sad and a little ticked about it.

Is that honest enough for you?  I think as a blogger you can choose to keep your private life private, or you can put it all out there.  And I think I put a lot out there here on the blog – and I hope you enjoy reading about me.  I like to know who is behind the blog, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask!  Just don’t ask me how we broke the oven.  ;)

I’ve finished my 10, except now I’m thinking of more things that I could share – ha!  But now it’s time to pass the torch…drum roll please!!

  1. Hannah @ B’s Wig Shoppe – I owe Hannah a 20 questions on my blog!

  1. OCD Expert

Obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD is a disorder that is characterized by anxiety and intrusive thoughts and feelings that become so out of control that the sufferer cannot lead a normal life.
