Wedding Week Day 5: I Do’s

Update: I’m linking Wedding Week to ‘Beautiful Life Friday’ over at the Inspired Room!  She’s featuring a great guest post about canning ‘Apple Pie in a Jar’ – yummy!!  Thanks for visiting if you’re coming over from there!

Wedding Week Day 1: Welcome to Wedding Week!

Wedding Week Day 2: A & C’s Rustic Wedding Plan

Wedding Week Day 3: E & B’s Vintage French Wedding Plan

Wedding Week Day 4: Sweetest Day

Thank you for sticking with me all week, everyone!  We’re to the final day of wedding week, and I hope that I’ve brought you some great inspiration (I know it has been helpful for me when gathering ideas for the weddings from Days 2 and 3).  It’s been fun and I promise to keep you updated as the weddings get closer.  And as I’ve mentioned before, this Sunday, October 18th is our 6th wedding anniversary.  Wow!  And thanks to one of my Twitter contacts I’ve learned that this is the “candy” anniversary.  I’ll be sure to pick up a big box of chocolates for Glenn…along with an Xbox game or something boy-ish that he would want.  :)

Yesterday I shared some of our engagement photos, along with a few “pre-ceremony” photos that we took – I recommend taking photos before the wedding, even though it’s not traditional and considered “bad luck.”  But that is just us!  We did take some great “post-ceremony” photos as well and so here we go!  But first…a big thank you to our photographer Kathi Corder.  Didn’t she do an amazing job?  (I do want to note, these photos have been reduced in size and quality for uploading purposes – the originals are at a much higher resolution and the colors and quality look much better than what I have posted here!)

Funny how you forget all of these little details…but this photo below is our flower girl (pixie) asking her Grandma for some candy.  In the middle of a quiet church.  You can see Glenn’s sister laughing in the bottom right, and Christian (the ring bearer pro) is horrified at her un-professionalism!

And here she is playing with my veil…with my cousin making sure she stops.  :)

She’s very bored apparently!

Okay, now this photo below is probably the most memorable part of our wedding.  You see, Glenn’s dad is a UPS driver…so while planning the wedding together, Glenn’s mom and I decided it would be funny to play a little prank on Glenn during the ceremony!  Right as we were supposed to exchange rings, Glenn’s brother, the best man pretended like he lost my ring.  Glenn started to freak out a little, and then one of Glenn’s dad’s coworkers came down the aisle in his UPS uniform and had Glenn sign for the ring.  Priceless.  Plus we have it on 2 different videos.

Not the best photo, but here I am consoling my husband-to-be who just about had a heart attack.  :)

The kiss!

Now we went and took some pictures in the dirt.  :)   But the light was so pretty!  And the rest of these “post-wedding” photos are by far, my favorites!

And here is my favorite…I think we were tired of taking pictures by now!

Sweet ride, right?  :)

See ya’!

Well that’s it!  The Lieurance-Christensen wedding, which I still can’t believe was 6 years ago!  And resulted in the cutest baby girl ever!  I might be a little biased, though.

I hope you enjoyed Likely Design Wedding Week as much as I did.  We will resume our regularly scheduled, home-related posting next week, which I’m very excited about as we’ve been working on a few projects here and I didn’t share them because of the wedding-theme of the week!  It’s nice to have a handful of posts ready to go, though!

Have a great weekend, and don’t forget to celebrate your loved ones tomorrow on Sweetest Day!  xo, L.

Wedding Week Day 4: Sweetest Day

Wedding Week Day 4: Sweetest Day

When picking my all-too-important wedding date, all I knew was that I had to work around fire season.  We got engaged in January of 2003, so I knew a wedding before fire season was just too soon, and I love autumn so I thought that an October wedding would be perfect!  Little did I know that Glenn would have to leave for the San Bernadino fires of that year just 6 days after we got married!  So, no, we didn’t go anywhere for our honeymoon…we enjoyed a couple nights at the Surprise Valley Hot Springs after the wedding, and then at the house at Mahogany Ridge Guest Ranch until Glenn had to leave!  We were young, and we decided to spend our budget on the wedding instead of a honeymoon.  :)   But don’t feel sorry for us, we went to Mexico on a cruise about a year later and kept calling that our “honeymoon.”  And the staff treated us very well because of it, ha!

Anyway, when picking those magical numbers, all I knew is that, for some reason, I wanted an even number.  Don’t ask me why, but it just felt right to pick a date that was an even number.  I have a thing for numbers and an even number felt lucky to me.  :)   Plus it should be in the last half of the month to avoid fire season as much as possible.  And so, we decided on 10.18.2003 as our day.  The 3rd Saturday in October.  A few months into planning the wedding, I glanced at a big wall calendar where I worked at the time, and saw that October 18th of that year was a holiday!  A holiday that I had never heard of, but I thought that it was quite a sign and very appropriate for a wedding!  It’s called “Sweetest Day.”  Being from Northern California, I’ve never heard of Sweetest Day — have you??  Apparently it’s more popular in different areas of the country (the Great Lakes and Northeast), but I am happy to celebrate it every year, along with my wedding anniversary!

DSCF0172

So what is Sweetest Day?  From what I’ve read, it’s like Valentine’s Day but you celebrate ALL of the loved ones in your life, not just your significant other.  It was started back in 1921 as a way to spread cheer to those who were less fortunate, but has since become about celebrating friends, relatives and associates.  Of course I’ve found a lot of text claiming that it was invented solely by the candy and greeting card companies, but who cares?!?!  :)   Let them add holidays!!  I don’t think that you need a specific reason to celebrate your loved ones, but why not?  And I love that I got married on ‘Sweetest Day’ 6 years ago.

We had a traditional wedding as we got married in the church that I attended growing up, and then followed with a reception at the local Elk’s Lodge for dinner and dancing!  Wwwaaayyy back in 2003, digital cameras were just becoming popular so my wedding photos are a combination of digital and film which means that I can’t share all of them!  We took a lot of photos before the 5:00 ceremony (gasp!), but I am so glad that we did.  I also didn’t hire the photographer to shoot at the reception, my photo-savvy Aunt took pictures for me there, which are all on film.  So today, enjoy our engagement and before-the-ceremony shots.  And don’t forget to celebrate your loved ones on ‘Sweetest Day’ this Saturday!

P.S. If you’re curious, my dress is crushed organza silk in ‘candlelight’ color (slightly off-white). I loved it. It was also FREE!! It was my cousin’s dress from her 1990′s wedding, so we altered it by removing the big puffy sleeves and made it strapless. We turned one of the sleeves into a purse – look for it in the pictures. The seamstress also didn’t charge me as that was her ‘wedding gift’ to us! I didn’t get to keep it, but that is alright with me!

Our engagement photos were taken by Kathi Corder at a park in MacArthur, California.

These photos were taken at the historic Niles Hotel in Alturas, California. We didn’t get married here, but I wanted to take our “getting ready” photos here for a gorgeous backdrop.

This is Glenn’s nephew Christian…who’s now 12 and taller than I am!  Weird…

And our Flower Pixie is Glenn’s niece, who’s now 9.

See you at the wedding tomorrow!!  :)

Wedding Week Day 3: E & B’s French/Vintage Wedding

Wedding Week Day 3: E & B’s French/Vintage Wedding

On a very different note than yesterday’s wedding ideas, “E & B’s” wedding plan is a little more elegant with a vintage theme, but will be just as fun!  Miss E. is very much into keepsakes, memories, family photos and anything nostalgic, and her wedding will definitely reflect that.  She is also an amazing cook, so I’m sure the food will be a huge part of the wedding itself!  It will be another outdoor summer wedding with an orange and blue color scheme, and the theme is ‘French Vintage.’  I really hope that she chooses one of these birdcage headpieces for her veil, because when I think of a French Vintage wedding, this is what instantly pops into my mind!  That and a parasol…

This wedding concept just makes my heart go pitter-patter.  I think that if I were to plan my wedding today, this is the type of wedding I would choose.  I love the sweet details; the pretty patterns, the mix of textures, the casual vibe, the quiet drama and the gorgeous colors.  Seriously – when can you renew your vows just to throw an awesome party??

Again, I’ve been gathering photos and links like crazy, so I’m sorry if these collages are hard to see but I just had to pack in all of the beautiful inspiration!!  And you can click on them to see larger.

E & B's Wedding Inspiration

Follow me through the above photo, starting at the top left, and go clockwise:

  • Sweet vintage-inspired details (hearts, pastels, scallops) on a white background with pops of color
  • Birdcage used as a card holder, centerpiece, table marker…you could pack these full of all sorts of different goodies to decorate (candles, bird’s nests, eggs, flowers, pictures, etc.).  Buy it here.
  • More birdcage ideas!  Love the orange!
  • This tiny grouping of photos on the bottom right includes lace cutouts, vintage shipping tags, pastels along with vintage crystal
  • I love the orange and blue in these bottom photos!  And they have the same birdcage – found here!
  • Roses, peonies, carnations and peaches!  Gorgeous!  Plus I love the vintage teal milk glass cup as a vase.

And you know how I mentioned parasols above?  What a cute way to set out some items to make your guests more comfortable: parasols, fans and flip flops!  Plus all you need is an old beer crate to store them in a stylish way!  {Image via Style Me Pretty}

E & B's Wedding Inspiration

Lots and lots more great ideas here.

  • A “traditional” (traditionally cheesy, right?) paper garland, but used in a new way creates a gorgeous ceremony location.
  • Vintage family photographs at the guest book table is something that I could see ‘E’ want to do for sure!  Plus I love the oil lamp.
  • Stripes in pastel colors, paired with antique silver looks so gorgeous.
  • More vintage glassware and pastel flowers…I am sensing a theme here.
  • Vintage photographs displayed on a vintage suitcase.  Perfect!
  • Random and mis-matched thrift store finds can store a simple arrangement but make a big statement.
  • I love the antique typewriter as a guest book idea.
  • Bunting, bunting, bunting!  Easy and cheap to make – and would be great draped across the trees or as a way to welcome guests!
  • This vintage car inspired the teal accent color in those beautiful shoes – along with the globes!  Anything can be used as decor!
  • Vintage handkerchiefs given out as favors (to wipe those tears in style!), displayed in an antique suitcase.  So sweet.

A vintage-themed wedding can inspire some beautiful favor ideas; the parasols, fans, hankies, vintage tins with candy in them, a pretty candle.  It would all be so great to receive as a gift.

I also found these gorgeous DIY projects on Style Me Pretty that would work perfectly here!  How great would these pinwheels be as cupcake toppers?

And all you have to do here is download the PDF, print it onto cardstock, punch it out with a craft punch and glue it to a stir stick and you have adorable vintage-inspired drink stirrers!  They would be perfect for E & B’s big day!

Seriously, to pull of this look just head over to your local antique or thrift store and gather up all of their linens and glassware, and then layer it everywhere!  You cannot go overboard if you tried.  I know my local one has TONS of little things like this at inexpensive prices, and you can always use them over again at home to remind you of your big day.  Then re-purpose containers to hold favors, parasols, fans, or even your food.  Scatter tables all over the place to display your most treasured items, supplement it with those little treats for your guests and you can put together a vintage-themed wedding!

Check back tomorrow for more wedding fun!  xo, L.

Wedding Week Day 2: A & C’s Rustic Wedding

Wedding Week Day 2: A & C’s Rustic Wedding

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m working on a few weddings right now – slowly though, as all 3 are next year!  Which gives me lots of time to whittle down the all of the perfect touches and details, because it’s all about the details, right?  So over the next few days I will be going through all of the fun things that I’ve gathered, ideas that I just love, and things that I might choose if I could do it all over again!  Is 6 years too early to renew your vows?  :)

So today, let’s get started with what bride-to-be “A” wants for her big day!!  Here’s the overall idea: summer wedding, outdoors, casual/rustic, with a pink & brown color scheme (where additional decor is needed – we’re letting nature do the talking here).  The wheels immediately began turning as we were talking – and here are some jumping-off ideas I’ve found to start us off.

First of all, you start with the location, and I know the location well.  The landscape in the photo below will be her backdrop.

Pom-poms and the view

More specifically, this is where the ceremony will take place – it’s the only photo I have of the site so try not to get distracted by the cute baby!

As I’m in the very, very beginning stages of gathering ideas for A & C’s wedding, I am just going crazy, grabbing every idea that I can!  Could you ask for a better job?  Here are some collages of things that I love, and I hope that they will love as well:

"A & C" Wedding Inspiration

I chose a lot of these ideas based on the concept, not necessarily the ‘exact’ decoration to copy because I thought that the concept would work well out at the ranch.  For instance, starting at the top left and running clockwise, I like the branches as a statement piece, bring nature and wood into the concept.

  • Mason jars with pebbles and candles are easy, inexpensive, and would look great wherever you need a little sparkle.
  • They’d look great on the table for a flowery centerpiece, too.
  • Again, this grand rustic barn, balanced with luxurious, flowing curtains – and I love the peek of the candles inside to mark the aisles.
  • Paper lanterns always look great with twinkling lights outdoors.
  • It will be a ranch wedding, so I’m sure there will be a lot of cowboy boots present at the affair!
  • If you look closely at the bottom left photo, there are a large set of initials, covered in moss…nice and earthy but bright!
  • The “Wedding” sign with the arrow would set the tone for the wedding, and navigate the guests to where they need to go.
  • I love the s’mores station idea; there is a fire pit at the location, and it would make a great favor!
  • I also love the crisp, white tablecloths against the worn-in barn background.  Did you follow all of that?

"A & C" Wedding Inspiration

  • “A” isn’t quite sure of which type of flowers she wants to use yet, but I love this bouquet, the velvet ribbon, and this photo idea (which would be easy to re-create at the location!).
  • Vintage pitchers with a big bunch of hydrangeas – enough said!
  • You can use the food and beverages to add to the decor, and a big batch of pink lemonade in a clear dispenser would do the trick here.
  • I love the pom-poms in the trees in the background while the bride and groom have their first dance.
  • Look close at this table…yes, those are coffee beans!  Click to enlarge if needed.
  • More pom poms and twinkle lights!!
  • Galvanized buckets on shepherd hooks with a simple arrangement would work great to line the aisle in an outdoor wedding.
  • Instead of a computerized slide-show or a big collage of baby photos, I thought that a tree wrapped with photos would be a very special touch, plus it would help ‘decorate’ some of the trees.
  • A potted and painted branch is a great favor holder!
  • Again, add some color with the beverages.
  • This table’s runner is made of burlap (love that!), and instead of a guest book they had postcards on the table to be mailed to the bride and groom.

"A & C" Wedding Inspiration

  • I love these pastel flowers.  The colors and containers made it feel rustic, yet feminine.  And is that more burlap??
  • A slice of a log acts as a serving tray for vintage napkins here – I love the bark for texture, paired with the delicate cloth napkins!
  • More manzanita branches, balanced with perfectly symmetrical white candles on a bright runner.  And it’s striped.  Love it!  Plus it looks great with the glasses.
  • I found these wooden roses on a craft website, and I thought that they would be a great touch scattered around the tables.
  • This grouping of photos has all of the things I love; hanging flowers and candles, neutrals, wine barrels and chalkboards.  A chalkboard would be a perfect solution to display the menu as the food will be served buffet style.
  • Natural twig balls, but in pink!  Find them here! I just wish they were a little bigger, but you can always add more!
  • More hand-painted wooden signs = love.

anthropologie_table_03

And how great is this vintage themed set-up?  With the vintage metal beverage dispenser (softened up for a wedding with a cute tag and ribbon) paired with mason jars for serving, but tied with ribbon?  I also love using the bike basket (not right for this wedding, but I love the concept!) for flowers…and look at all of those flowers!!  And the clock-faced buttons attached to ribbon for the napkin rings is genius!

And I just found this photo so I had to include for future reference – not too hot about the tablecloth, but I love the food presentation (and the wagon wheel/cart idea).  Note to self, need to find some baskets!

I am in wedding heaven right now!  I can’t wait to make up a couple mock-ups of what I think we should use and show them to ‘Miss A.’  As soon as she said she wanted pink I could hardly contain myself!  And don’t forget to check back here tomorrow for more wedding eye candy!

Welcome to Wedding Week!!

Welcome to Wedding Week!!

Ahhhh, weddings!  But wait – isn’t this a ‘home interior design’ blog?  Well, it is, but not exclusively!  What is the fun in that?  It is my blog…so I can talk about what I want to talk about, right?  I did just post a silly Halloween Jib-Jab video (that I’m still cracking up over!)…so I guess I’m allowed!  Well then why weddings?  Because if you know me, you know that I love to get my hands in all sorts of different projects and one of them is wedding styling!  Let’s think of it as over-the-top ‘temporary decorating,’ shall we?

Plus…save your applause…my own wedding anniversary is this weekend!!!  And to celebrate my upcoming wedding anniversary, and to corral some awesome wedding ideas for a few upcoming weddings that I am helping style, I am officially declaring this Likely Design Wedding Week!!  I could have sworn that I heard somewhere that October was the 2nd most popular wedding month, but the general consensus through Googling is that it is the 5th.  I love my October wedding date – I had to work around fire season to choose our date, but it was a PERFECT day with gorgeous weather – and I’m so excited because I’ll be talking about all things weddings this week!  I love weddings!  And don’t worry…the Lieurance-Christensen wedding photos and details will be posted this Friday!

To start things off this week, I want to do a round-up of some places that I (along with thousands of others!) find wedding inspiration – and get to drool over some serious wedding-related eye candy.  All I can say is that I wish blogs were around when I was planning my wedding because there is some serious inspiration out in the blogosphere.  Not many people that I know ‘in the real world’ seem to know much about the blog world, or how to navigate it, and I love, love, love to open their eyes to this amazing and inspiring place!

{This photo is all over online, so I can’t find the original source – but it is gorgeous, right?!!}

And Etsy…oh, Etsy – where were you 6 years ago?!?!!?  Etsy is so great for made-with-love little wedding details (and you can always find a great deal!) and one found treasure can lead to another, and more ideas will just keep rolling in.  Anyway, these are a few sites that I recommend to new brides-to-be when starting to plan for the big day!

I know that there are literally thousands of other inspiring wedding blogs out there that I haven’t included on this list, but this is a short list of ones that I’ve found some great ideas from and bookmarked recently.  I’ve been on the lookout for outdoor styling ideas, rustic wedding themes, hand-made and hand-makable (is that a word?) accessories, DIY wedding projects, and easy-to-re-create sweet little details that will make these weddings memorable.  Because it’s all in the details, right?

Do you have a favorite wedding blog or website that I’ve missed?  Please link it here to help us find some great wedding inspiration for Likely Design Wedding Week!  More fun to come over the next 4 days so check back tomorrow!
