trading spaces…completely

So I’m at work today and decide to take a break and walk down to the antique store.  While I’m there I remember that I need to check out lace (hopefully large pieces like curtains or tablecloths) for decor for a wedding I’m helping with this summer.  Nada.  Nothing but teeny scraps or doilies.  So that makes me think of possibly buying it from a fabric store and hemming it if needed.  So I decide to check out fabric.com.  What do I see right on the homepage? Besides a sale on Packers and Steelers print – GO PACKERS!!!  But a line of fabric by former Trading Spaces carpenter Ty Pennington! And they’re actually pretty interesting patterns.

I thought they said home decor weight so my first thought was upholstery…but as I look closer it says “use for quilting and craft projects,” so I guess it’s too light.  Boo.  But they would make a kick-ass quilt! Or pillowcase, even if it isn’t heavy.

Ask and you shall receive! The patterns are available in quilting AND home decor weight – yippee! Yes, I’m too lazy to go back and delete my last comment.  Just enjoy the pretty pictures, ok??

For a heftier price per yard…of course.

You’re welcome. :)   Go check it out by clicking here.

Sprucing Up

Sprucing Up

I’m itchin’ to change up my kitchen.  Seriously, folks…I think I might be getting my much needed DISHWASHER soon…so of course I’m dreaming of some low-budget ways to update the kitchen. And as we will be changing things up in the future, I’m thinking of what we need to do now to tie things in down the road. For instance…this wall will have a new countertop and cabinets. Someday. So the stripes have to go. Sorry, stripes…I’ll miss ya’…

Dining room

Which means I’ll probably do away with the rest of the green on my kitchen walls…

Kitchen

Don’t worry…the countertop, sink, faucet, cabinet doors and hardware, and the lovely vinyl flooring will all be gone someday as well.  Can I rip that horrible soffit out, too?!?!  Read: someday… but for now, I’m thinking paint and fabric will satisfy my need for change.  Especially because I’ll be standing right at that sink, loading my dirty dishes into a brand new dishwasher very, very soon!  So I won’t care what the rest of it looks like, for a while anyway!

So what color will I paint my kitchen?  Probably some form of white…not sure yet.  But I do like green…green cabinets, anyone??  I’m considering it.

How about something more like this?

Rosemary by Sherwin Williams

And I’d love to have this fabric for my curtains…

But it’s a little out of my budget at $138/yard!

So I might try something like this instead:

At only $8.98/yard with free shipping I might give it a try!  It’s not Kelly Wearstler linen, but it will have to do for my little kitchen.

Stay tuned…but don’t hold your breath! :)

Your child NEEDS one of these…

Your child NEEDS one of these…

Playroom product sneak peek!!!  The daycare playroom is almost done!!  Glenn and I went to the house last weekend and opened boxes, cut off tags, hung art, shelves, wall decals and installed one of THESE!!  And it is my favorite part of the room so far…what kid would not want to hang out in this all day????  I know I would have!

It’s the Home Sweet Play Home in Blue at Land of Nod.  And it is awesome.  We were originally going to go with this (below) for cost reasons, but then we couldn’t get this out of our heads and had to have it!

Yawn.  Too see-through to be cool.  :)   It’s the Fabler from IKEA, by the way…

Yes, it’s a whole lot cheaper ($19.99 compared to $99) but the Land of Nod one is totally worth the splurge!  It also comes in green, lavender and pink.  I’ve decided that Harper needs one – someday – when she will appreciate it!

And I thought I’d share a few inspiration photos that I gathered for my client for the playroom – enjoy!  And hopefully I’ll have some pictures to share with you soon!
