{Show & Tell}

Have you entered Serena & Lily’s Show and Tell Contest for October?? Good things might happen if you do!! I was completely shocked when I found out that I won their September contest by entering Harper’s room – and getting to spend $250 on their website was a dream come true!  I rarely have a spare $250 burning a hole in my pocket, so as a treat to myself I splurged a little – and I thought I’d “Show and Tell” what I bought!  I’m so excited, but I have to ask – is it wrong that I spent $250 at a baby boutique but didn’t buy anything for my baby?  Hehehe…she really doesn’t need anything new for her room and that’s what I’m sticking to!!

The one thing that has been on my shopping list for a long, long time from S&L is their design book, “Nursery Style.” So I had to make sure to include that and add it to my design book library.  The photos and design tips inside are amazing – I’m loving all of the eye candy and so, so glad that I got it.

I also couldn’t get those “Everything Bins” out of my mind, mostly because of the great prints that they come in!  I ended up getting the Desk Caddy in Spring Green Florentine and I love it.  It was so hard to choose which design to get, but I knew I wanted it in my office, and you can never go wrong with green in a great graphic pattern.  Now this purchase really surprised me when it got here – not only is the signature S&L print so stinkin’ cute, but the bin itself is very heavy, the printed coat is nice and glossy and the galvanized interior is shiny and fun, too!  And how fun do my Prismacolor markers look in it?

Peacock Gypsy Tote

And with the rest of my gift card (and a little out of my pocket for shipping costs) I just couldn’t leave their site without picking up the Peacock Gypsy Tote for myself.  I wanted the matching clutch as well, but I might have to wait for Santa to bring it to me.  :)   How great is this bag??  I love big bags – I’m not a little bag girl.  This can function as a diaper bag, but I love that I can use it as a regular purse because it doesn’t look like a diaper bag.  It fits well, the embroidery is GORGEOUS, there are sweet little details all over it, and the interior is roomy and cleanable.  PERFECT!!  It even has elastic pockets for bottles/waterbottles, etc.

I know some people spend a lot on bags.  I’m not one of them.  I don’t think I’ve ever owned a purse that cost almost as much as say, my car payment.  But I just couldn’t help myself here – the last time I bought a purse Harper was a newborn, still in the hospital.  That’s how often I change bags.  It was time for a new one and this one was calling my name.  And then when S&L posted a picture of Halle Berry toting her Gypsy Tote around on their Facebook page, that put the icing on the cake for me and I had to have it, ha!

And speaking of Facebook – have you checked out my Facebook page for Likely Design? I’m sure a lot of you are already fans (and that is how you got here) but if you’re not – check it out!!

I photographed these in my in-progress office, which is a room that I haven’t posted on here yet. It’s nice and organized right now but it needs to be “finished.” It’s not pretty – simply functional right now. I am excited to paint furniture, switch out knobs, add some art…and then I’ll show it to you. :) For now, you just get a peek. Enjoy!

{Likely Giveaway} Mio Culture Softbowls!

**This giveaway is no longer accepting entries.  Check back tomorrow for the winner!**

Woo-hoo!! Likely Design (that’s me!!) is hosting it’s first sponsored giveaway!! Can you tell I’m excited? And I wish I could win it because I hand-picked the prize myself thanks to the generous folks over at CSN stores. If you haven’t checked out CSN and their HUGE variety of stores (over 200 stores – wowow!), I highly recommend it. This extra special giveaway is from my favorite site — so far — of the bunch: AllModern.com, which is a great resource for modern furniture at any price point, and there is quite a variety to choose from!  You know how I love modern and mid-century modern furniture. And if you don’t, you should keep reading!

Alright, alright – to the PRIZE!! This giveaway (open to US residents only — sorry if you’re not here!) will offer ONE lucky Likely Design reader their… choice… of… a… Mio Culture Softbowl! Wha-what? What is a Mio Culture Softbowl? Well allow me to elaborate. Straight from their site. :)

Beehive Softbowl by Mio Culture

“Designed as an alternative to energy intensive decorative vessels, SoftBowls provide function and beauty with a reduced energy footprint. Available in three different designs, they can be mixed and matched into fun groupings. Practical as storage containers, planter cozies or decoration, these SoftBowls will liven any home or office.

* Available in Beehive, Wobowl, and Swoop designs
* Made from 100% wool
* Renewable, recyclable, compostable”

Swoop Softbowl by Mio Culture

As soon as I saw them, I just couldn’t help myself. Function. Check. Aesthetically pleasing. Check. Eco-friendly. Check. A little quirky. Check and check!  They’re handmade in Philadelphia from locally sourced wool, molded by local crafts people using traditional millinery technologies, all to reduce their carbon footprint.  Awesome.  And if you have a chance, check out Mio Culture’s full website and browse their amazing wallpaper, lighting, and accessories.

Wobowl Softbowl by Mio Culture

Now what would I pick and how would I use it if I could win?  (Obviously I can’t, but I’m excited for you!!)  I really like the Beehive in Charcoal or the Wobowl in Pumpkin.  I’d use them to hold my new embroidery projects that I’m creating as Christmas gifts, or to hold oversized matches by our wood stove.  I might even put fruit in them and display them on the kitchen table! :)

How do you enter, you ask? Easy! There are a few ways and you can enter up to 4 times… (once each way, and leave a separate comment for each entry).

1.  Leave a comment below (by Sunday, September 20th, 2009 at 11:59PM PST) telling me how you’d use a Softbowl if you win!! And don’t forget to tell me which Mio Softbowl, and in which color you’d like if chosen: The Swoop, the Beehive, or the Wobowl!

The Best Dressed Room in the House – and FREE art!

The Best Dressed Room in the House – and FREE art!

Have you heard of “Feed Your Soul,” the free art project on Indie Fixx? I honestly cannot remember how I found it, but I’ve run across it a few times and they add new downloadable art every month. Great, right? You just download the PDF files to print and frame! Or in my case, print and pin up with a thumb tack because I have no spare frames – something I’ve always thought I need a good stock pile of. Do you have any good online sources I should know about?

I downloaded a few different prints to keep on hand, but I just had to put at least one up – so where else but the best dressed and most finished room of the house? Harper’s room of course. I love the little pops of green that I have around her room, so I printed out this watercolor tree print by Angela Vandenbogaard. I just took a tack and pinned it right up over her dresser. Isn’t it cute?

New art in Harper's room

When you visit the site, what you’ll find is a lot of whimsical art that is easily placed in a girl’s bedroom, but I am seeing a lot of art like this in the main areas of the home all around the blogs these days.

There are lots of different pieces to choose from.  It would be a great way to add an inexpensive frame collage on a blank wall, especially when printing the pieces in various sizes!  Enjoy and have a great week!!

xo, L.

PS – this is my 100th post!!  I smell a Likely Design 1st GIVEAWAY coming up!!!!  Stay tuned!!!
